Help a refugee family get settled in Austin! In a few days time, a refugee family from Eritrea - a mother and her two young daughters - will join our community in Austin, Texas.
We have volunteered through Refugee Services of Texas to provide social and material support to this family over a three month period. One of our first tasks is to furnish an apartment and stock a pantry for the family. Without private donations, the cost of furnishings and food comes out of the family's very limited resettlement allowance. We are seeking donations so that we can save the family money from their resettlement allowance and provide them with a comfortable space in which to acclimate to life in Texas. We hope to buy new beds, linens, kitchen equipment, basic furniture, and dry food.
In addition to funds for these new items, we are soliciting donations of furniture and furnishings. Several household items have already been generously donated by members of our group and the wider community. If you are in Austin and have an item that you think might be suitable to donate please contact us!
We would be very grateful for any donation you can spare to help our new neighbors start their life in Texas and we guarantee that 100% of what we receive will go to providing for this family's resettlement needs. Any money left over after furnishing the apartment will go into school supplies, gift certificates for groceries and clothing and paying future months of rent in advance. Refugee families are placed under significant financial and social pressure on their arrival in America, and your donation will help to alleviate some of that pressure. Thank you so much for your support!
