Four years ago, Andy could barely run one mile without being totally out of breath. Since then he's ran multiple 5K's, 10K's, 15K's, 50K's, half marathons, the Chicago marathon, Bourbon Chase Relay, the Peace, Love and 50 miles trail marathon in Hell, Michigan, as well as his first 100 mile trail marathon at the Indiana Trail 100 in Albion, Indiana. When Andy first started talking about wanting to run 100 mile trail marathons, he had a strong desire to simply finish the race in the 30 hour time limit. He ran the Indiana Trail 100 in 27 hours and 30 minutes under some of the absolute worst weather conditions for Indiana in April. When he talked of wanting to run more 100 mile races, he discovered a passion to start running for a cause. We talked and prayed about it and decided his next race in Leadville, Colorado on August 17 would be a great opportunity to accomplish that goal and help bring a sweet boy named Tucker home to his forever family. The legendary "Race Across The Sky" 100-mile Run is where it all started back in 1983. This is it. The race where legends are created and limits are tested. One hundred miles of extreme Colorado Rockies terrain — from elevations of 9,200 to 12,600 feet.
We are asking people to pledge a dollar amount per mile that he finishes to do two things: First, it will motivate him to keep going and finish the race (The current finish rate is 50%, as this is one of the toughest races in the country) and second it will help raise money for some of our very dearest friends, Ryan and Amy Abell, to bring home their two year old son, Tucker, from China.
So many people want to adopt but are overwhelmed by the expenses involved. Adoptions through China typically cost a minimum of $30,000. Your financial support is needed in order to make their final payments. The first $5000 of the money raised will go directly to the Abell family. Any money raised above and beyond what the Abell family needs will be prayed over and donated to other families that they have come to know that are also in the adoption process.
Thank you for your consideration, support, prayers, and generosity for the Abell family.
*If you prefer to simply make a one time donation, you can do that now through this website or by mailing a check, whichever is most convenient for you!
*If you chose to pledge a dollar amount per mile, please click "Contact the Organizer." Be sure to include your name, paypal address (if you have one), email address, and the dollar amount you are pledging per mile that Andy completes. You will be sent a message once the race is over with the dollar amount you are contributing to help bring Tucker, and hopefully many other children, home to their forever families.
