"We always wanted to adopt, and when the opportunity opend up, we did it to help change a child's life. One of the principles of religion is [to care for orphans]-it's an act of unselfishness and the best thing I feel I've ever done."- Willie Robertson
The quote above sums up our feelings well...we are so excited to love another child and welcome her into our family, just as we have with each of our three kiddos so far. Keep reading to learn about our journey to adoption.
For quite a few years adopting has been on our hearts. We don’t exactly recall when the feeling started, but when God is directing you towards something, He makes it clear.
Adoption was put on hold when of course Amber became pregnant with our oldest son Reid who is now 4. It was put on hold again four months after Reid was born when Amber became pregnant with our second son Eli who is now 3. Adoption was then put on hold a third time 1 year after Eli was born when we found out Amber was pregnant with our third son Henry who is now 1.5.
Adoption was also put on hold for a myriad of other reasons such as:
1) selling our first home and purchasing our second home
2) wanting to build a garage for our new home
3) feeling overwhelmed at times merely raising the three sons
4) Paying medical bills from our three sons being born
5) wanting to purchase a Tesla Model S : )
6) generally feeling selfish
7) being tight wads with our money and thinking everything actually belongs to us.
Our reasons to postpone adoption became overruled when God began working in both of our hearts recently and our previous reasoning was proven foolish by Him. He was asking us to adopt one of his daughters. He was asking us to follow him and do something that will actually change our lives, where buying, selling, and building things on earth will not.
God in his grace keeps reminding us that He is the one who will build our family and accomplish this goal. It has been made very clear that when we stop trusting Him and take the reigns, that fear, selfishness, and doubt ensue. When we believe Him and in His power, the oposite of those emotions take their place.
Over the past 2 months, God has clarified the direction he wants us to follow. To trust Him, even when we don’t know how, by welcoming a daughter into our family and showing her all of the love He has shown to us.
This adoption is not just to gain a daughter, but to gain a sister. Reid has already designated a spot for her in his room and it has been so special to see his heart start to fall in love with his little sister, someone he hasn’t even met yet.
It’s a really awkward thing to talk about money, but boy do we need a bunch! :) We will not know the exact cost of our adoption fees until we are matched, but we expect it to cost approximately $30,000. We have saved a bit, but that is mostly used up now after application fees and starting our home study, so we are trusting that God will make this happen, He’s the only one who can….
We will be posting updates throughout our journey here on our You Caring page and here www.throughamberseyes.com
