The Story

NEWS!!  We arrived home with our 3 new sons on June 21st.  When we stepped off the plane, they became American citizens!  Thank you to everyone who donated so generously.  We are forever grateful.  As I write this we have been home now for 3 months.  We are so thrilled to love and be loved by these fantastic boys!  Our BIG NEWS is that we're preparing to go back to Ukraine to adopt 2 MORE new sons!  You can read all about it at our new page here:

Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story.

My husband Jim and I always talked about adopting someday.  After 26 years of marriage and raising 5 great sons, we all felt that God was beginning to prepare our hearts for adding to our family through adoption.  We have so much love to share -- it just seems like God's perfect timing in our lives.

This past summer we learned about Ukraine orphans and some terrible statistics.  At the age of 16, usually on August 31st each year, orphan children are basically turned out on the streets with very little in the way of clothing, skills or any hope at all.  Only 50% survive to see their 20th birthday... and over 80% never reach the age of 25.  Without guidance, newly "graduated" orphans become targets of predators and often end up in drug-addicted and crime-filled lives.

"Jacob" is only 11 years old, but he doesn't deserve to spend one more day without the love of a family.  We are so joyful that God is leading us down this path to adopt him!  He will have many older brothers to love on him, too.

After the funds for adopting Jacob are raised, we will continue to raise funds to adopt 2 brothers who are 15 and 16 years old.

Yes!  We have been approved to adopt THREE boys! :-)

Nick, who is 16, will only be allowed to come to America because he has a younger sibling.  The United States does not allow a child who has turned 16 to be adopted internationally and enter the country as a citizen.  But because he has a younger sibling, an exception is made.  God has perfect timing -- and Nick and Anatoliy (15) will have a family, too!

Nick is living at a trade school since he aged out of the orphanage.  His brother went along with him, even though he could have had another year without being completely out on his own.  The brotherly love between them is so evident and we are so glad they still have each other and have not been separated.  Also -- they have now learned that our family is coming for them!

Thank you for being a part of making these boys' dreams of having a "forever" family a reality -- and for helping us to bring them HOME.

P.S.  Thank you so much for your donation of any amount, large or small!

We arrived safely home with all 3 of our new sons on June 21st.  Thank you to everyone who contributed, prayed and supported us in other ways.  It was a harrowing journey, but we were blessed to witness so many amazing miracles from God!  At every turn we experienced amazing deliverance at His hand.  From rebel separatist road blocks to government officials' decisions, we saw the Red Sea part for us again and again -- and most times quite suddenly!  We needed the "peril" and ultimate deliverance to always know that it was all GOD.  Now we can never look back and wonder if He was really in it --- it would have been impossible at every turn without Him.  We are so thankful to be safely home and now beginning the work of becoming a "whole" family.  Thank you for being a part, whether large or small.  You are loved and appreciated!

By the grace of God and His phenomenal provision we have been blessed with donations that surpassed our goal!!  Thank you to everyone who has given and prayed and encouraged!!

Jim is on a plane right now to get here in time for court for our "Jacob" on Thursday morning, Ukraine time.  Friday we have court for our 2 older boys, the brothers.  I have so enjoyed these past few weeks getting to know my new children, trying Ukrainian recipes and learning Russian!  I haven't so much enjoyed being locked behind 3 bolted doors for the majority of my time, but I know I am safer this way.  The airport Jim was flying into has been under seige, so he has to make his way from Kiev instead.  We know God is completing the mission HE began, so we are completely resting in Him!  Soon we will share pictures of our complete Ukrainian family ... and then pictures in Michigan when our entire family is united.  We will also share our boys' new names they have chosen!

So much love surrounds us.  God has gone before us and He is surrounding us with favor, grace and supernatural protection.  Thank you so much for caring for us.

UPDATE:  May 11, 2014 - Jim has returned to the U.S. to work and wait for our court dates.  I have remained in Ukraine continuing to spend time with the boys.  All is well -- just continuing to trust God for a speedy process!  So far everything has gone well.  We are praising God for His provision, protection and grace through the whole journey.  I am uploading new photos, so be sure to check the photo section!  Also, we still need to raise a little more money, but we are otherwise on track financially.  So I am extending the fundraiser dates so there is no confusion and donations can be accepted.  Thank you so much for helping and praying!
