Update...Big update! We have been approached by the adoption agency about a baby...this baby is due in one week. As in... the birth mother will be induced in exactly one week. She wants her baby to go to a couple who has been unable to have their own children...THAT'S US! We are the only family the agency is currently working with that fits that description. The agency says they could have our paperwork/home study complete this week if we had the money ready. Frankly, the thought of that is overwhelming. VERY overwhelming. We have been examining the numbers, looking at options on what we could sell, what we could cut, etc... but there is still no equation that adds up with just our own resources. We know it would take a miracle for this to happen in only the next 5-6 days, but we also know that our God is sovereign. We have faith that if this is what He is calling us to do, then He will provide the way, as only He can. Thank you again for your prayers and support. We love you all and are so blessed to be surrounded with the friends God has placed in our lives.
Well...surprise! The O'Kelleys are beginning the process of adoption. Do you know what we have discovered...adoption is EXPENSIVE!
How expensive? $24,500+ expensive! Plus birth-mom expenses (her rent, food, utilities, etc while she is pregnant). These are about $1,300 a month.
We have made many budget cuts (much to the dismay of local clothing and sporting goods stores) and are in the process of making more (anybody interested in buying a vehicle?). Though we both agree that it would not bother us a single bit for someone ELSE to ask US to help them in the same situation, we have REEEALLY struggled with the thought of asking people for money. We have sought advice from some of our friends and family who assured us there is nothing wrong with it, yet we still get anxious every time we talk about it (it makes my stomach hurt!).
Nevertheless, we are 100% sure that this is what God is calling us to do. We are also 100% sure that we do not have the finances to do it on our own. Proverbs 11:2 says, "When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." Therefore, it is with great humility that we ask for your prayers, and if possible, financial assistance for the future family that God has planned for us.
