When Adopt A Family USVI began nearly 5 months ago, we never, ever expected the response we received. We have been humbeled, blown away and at times completely dumb founded by the amount of love that came from perfect strangers.
While the needs of individuals on the Islands is not over, our adopter families amazingly continue to provide for them. The words "thank you" will never be enough.
As many of you know in the midst of starting Adopt A Family USVI (AAF), we begin "Adopt A Classroom USVI". The idea was for classrooms, or groups that are stateside, to adopt classrooms in the islands that had been devastated by hurricanes Irma and Maria. The need was far greater than we ever anticipated. While we were able to cover about half of the classrooms that signed up, we are struggling to cover the rest. For that reason we have decided to start accepting individual donations.
An Amazon Wishlist will also be established for smaller items that can be shipped to our team members on the ground to distribute. But many of the items needed by these classrooms are heavy and "high ticket". As AMAZING as our adopters are, we can not expect individuals to cover all of these costs.
Additionally, the Family Resource Center and AAF have several containers of supplies sitting on the docks in St Thomas, as we all try to find kind donors to pay for their release. We would love to see these supplies make it into the hands of needy people. Every dollar counts as we continue to help these islands piece their lives back together.
I feel like I say this all of the time, but YOU ALL are the reason we are able to help. You're the reason these people didn't feel alone after the storms. You’re the reason many of these kids had a Christmas. We can’t even put into words what your generosity has done. As insufficient as it is, THANK YOU, yet again.
