My sweet four year old niece, Addie Abernathey, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Rhabdomyosarcoma (a very rare form of aggressive cancer) last Christmas Eve after spending the holiday in the Emergency room and finding a tumor in her sinus area in her head. Shortly after the diangosis we found out she did have metastatic disease as a new tumor showed up in her shoulder bone. Brave little Addie spent the entire last year undergoing chemo treatments here at the local Children's Hospital, and 7 weeks of radiation in Seattle. We were so excited to have Addie finally finished with her treatment in October, and crushed to see her start limping only a few weeks later over Thanksgiving. We spent the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the hospital and found out that Addie had broken her hip bone. We then found out that the hip bone was broken due to a new tumor showing up in her hip. Last week we received the devastating news that because the cancer was back so soon, her prognosis was now only 10% with 6-12 months to live. This morning we received even worse news when the doctor called and let my sister in law know that all the scan results were back, and the cancer has now spread to multiple bones throughout her little body. It is now likely that she has less than 6 months to live :( Our entire family is totally devastated but determined to enjoy every single moment with our sweet little Addie. Addie had a Make a Wish trip scheduled over New Years that had to be canceled when she broke her hip bone as she is now in a wheelchair from the surgery and can't walk for at least 3 months. After getting the bad news last week, Make a Wish was going to try and make a trip to Disneyland happen as soon as December 13. **Make a Wish has been AMAZING and Addie's trip was never in any jeopardy....but we have been scrambling to book this ourselves over the weekend with only a few days notice. Unfortunately with the even worse news we received this morning, the doctor suggested we pack up and head to Disneyland as soon as this week. It is important for Addie to start some new chemo treatments ASAP. Addie's family will do whatever it takes to make sure Addie goes to Disneyland this week to meet the Princesses and her favorite...DocMcstuffins. Because it is only a couple days notice and right before Christmas, it will be very expensive. Any donation of any size will be so helpful and we will be forever grateful. And any additional funds raised will go straight to Addie and her parents for medical bills. The community has been beyond amazing and we are all so grateful for the love, prayers and support!
