The Story

Acadiana Humane Society just pulled a sweet cat from St. John the Baptist Animal Shelter who had been hit by a car. He has a broken pelvis, which we are told will require a plate to hold it together so that he can heal properly. He is being transported today to our veterinarian that has an orthopedic specialist. We are in urgent need of sponsors for his vet bills, and the vet bills of the many other rescued cats, dogs, rabbits, and ferrets in our care. Won't you please make your contribution today? You can check out our website at acadianahumane.org.

Acadiana Humane Society is full, in debt to veterinarians, and in urgent need of pet food, cat litter, produce, flea prevention, and pet supplies! We have no more room until our numbers are greatly reduced. We can't make any new vet appointments at our vet with the lowest prices until that bill is paid down! This forces us to use more expensive vets when we have an emergency, and we are unable to provide basic veterinary needs until the money is raised! Barney the little 4 lbs dog has finally finished heart worm treatment and is available for adoption. However, we still owe a large amount of money on Barney's vet bills and medical boarding fees! Please, and donation, no matter how big or how small helps! You can either donate her via WePay on this YouCaring Fundraiser, or we have a Paypal donation button on our website: acadianahumane.org/catblogger/Our mailing address is also on our website and you can send us checks or money orders made out to Acadiana Humane Society, as well as gift cards to Petco, Tractor Supply, Ranch Outlet, Petsmart, Walmart, and Target, or any other local store that sells pet food & supplies. We can easily shop anywhere in Lafayette Parish, Breaux Bridge, and Opelousas areas. Donations have still been coming in much slower then they used to since the Louisiana flood last August. Many people are still rebuilding, or have flooded again recently, or have lost their jobs because of last year's flood. One of our volunteers was laid off from her job right last August after the flood, and has been unable to find another job. Louisiana is still hurting, and we need your help to continue to save the  lives of animals in need.

We were almost in an accident on the way to the vet today. An elderly man decided to right turn on red without stopping right in front of us, as we were turning left on our green arrow. He then suddenly decided to stop right in front of us in the middle of the turn. I had to slam on the brakes and just missed hitting him by inches! Everything, including the cat crates, went flying forward slamming into the back of the front seats. Booker sustained an injury to the wrist on his right front leg. It was so adorable when Dr Tony first went to look at Booker, and Booker looked up at Dr Tony and showed him his paw. Booker did that several times as if he was asking Dr Tony to fix it for him. Nothing appears to be broken, but he gave him some pain medication. Booker's wrist is now very swollen and he won't put any weight on that leg at all. He also got eye drops for his eye, which was why we brought him to the vet. Curie also saw Dr Tony for her Manx Syndrome problems. She is having bathroom bladder/bowel issues due to possible Manx Syndrome. Dr Tony cleaned up Curie's back end, gave her a sanitary shave, and an antibiotic injection as her back end was ulcerated from the bowel issues she's been having. He prescribed her a stool softener, and said to give her canned pumpkin. We go back in a little over a week for a recheck. Booker goes back in two weeks for a recheck. Donations urgently needed to help with their vet bills! You can either call in donations directly to our vet at Lafayette Veterinary Care Center at 337-984-7611 and ask them to apply your credit/debit card donation to Acadiana Humane Society's account for Curie and Booker. We also owe a few thousand to our Baton Rouge vet if you would like to call Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic at 225-755-3838 and ask them to apply your credit/debit card donation to Acadiana Humane Society's account for Barney the tiny 4 lbs dog going through heart worm treatment, or Claire the Pitt Bull for her care, or towards the many cats and rabbits that we have had spayed/neutered recently or treated for various health issues. Or, we have a Paypal button in our website if you prefer to donate that way: www.acadianahumane.orgThank you! We can not do what we do without your support!

Acadiana Humane Societycurrently has 4 rescue animals in medical boarding at Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic.

Barney, the 4 lbs dog, is still there hoping to start heartworm treatment soon. Meanwhile, he has had several complications that have prevented them beginning treatment. He is finally doing a little better, but is still having neck pain and holds his neck stiffly. He is currently going through laser therapy for the neck pain, as well as on steroids and pain meds.

Gideon the orange tabby teenage kitten is still there with his eye injury, and is starting to hold his eye open more, although it is still red. Bloodwork shows Gideon has the feline herpes virus, so he is on anti-viral eye drops. As well as on an antifungal for ringworm that he came to us with while at animal control.

Spritz the brown tabby cat that had polyps surgically removed from his ear before, has improved while at the vet. He no longer has a head tilt, and his pupil difference is not as obvious. He is currently being treated for a middle ear infection.

The bunny from St. Martin Animal Control is still being treated for her severe head tilt. She is currently eating Critical Care and hay, and now has a normal stool. She is on Panacur and Baytril for the significant head tilt. She does move around well, in spit of the head tilt. She was on sub-q fluids, but is drinking water on her own now. She is in need of a foster home with no other rabbits, as her condition may be contagious.

Donations are still urgently needed to pay off our current and constantly growing vet bills! You can donate online via Paypal on our website, through this YouCaring Fundraiser link, or you can call in a credit or debit card number directly to the vet who is taking care of Barney,Azalea Lakes Veterinary Clinic, by calling 225-755-3838 and asking them to apply your donation to the account of Acadiana Humane Society for Barney.
