​"Family and friends it is with deep sorrow that our greatly loved Drew Kostic passed away on December 18th, 2016. A viewing will be held at Life Story Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday, December 23rd. 1:00pm to 2:00pm will be reserved for family, 2:00pm - 4:00pm will be reserved for family and friends, with a service at 4:00PM. Following will be a celebration of life gathering at Park Shore Resort at approximately 5:00PM. For those needing a hotel, please call Parkshore Resort and ask for the Kostic block rate. Drew Paul Kostic, 28 of Traverse City died, Saturday, December 18, 2016.

He was born in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia the son of James and Bettyjo (Stroud) Kostic. Drew graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 2006. On November 28, 2006 he joined the Marines and completed two tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq. On February 15, 2011, he married, Shalimar Gothrup. He was a SSGT when he was released from duty on February 27, 2015. Drew received many service medals and commendations.

Upon returning to Traverse City, Drew enrolled in Northwestern Michigan College. He was working towards a Chemical Engineering degree.

Drew was very proud to be a US Marine. Through NMC, he gave speeches; sharing information about being a Veteran.

He enjoyed football, target shooting and was a Black Belt Martial Arts Instructor. He loved being with his German Shepherd, Bo.

Drew is survived by his, wife, Shalimar Gothrup, father, James Kostic, brother, Michael Kostic and Kyle Stroud and sister, Temi Brown.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Bettyjo Kostic.

An informal gathering will be held 2pm to 4pm Friday, December 23, 2016 at Life Story Funeral Home, with a funeral service at 4pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Peace Ranch, which helps veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, 2570 Hoosier Valley Rd, Traverse City, Michigan 49685.
