Meet Tonka, a three year old tri-color pitbull, born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, CA. He's not the brightest bulb, but he wouldn't hurt a fly. He is the sweetest, most lovable dog you'd ever meet and he didn't deserve what happened to him.

On February 26th, Tonka was shot in the face by a police officer during a raid of our friend's home who has a small medical marijuana garden. This friend was watching Tonka while we were out of town. After he was shot, Tonka fled and ran multiple miles before being picked up by animal control and brought to a local animal hospital. The bullet went in just below his left eye and shattered, leaving a trail of shrapnal throughout his snout and neck, but somehow managing to miss all of his vital organs.

Right now Tonka's medical bills are at $1,500 and rising. The doctors say he will have permanent damage to his nasal passageways that could cause complications in the future, but right now he is eating and breathing on his own which is a very good sign for his recovery. Everyone at the animal hospital just loves Tonka and they all keep telling us about how good he has been for them. Two of the officers who were present at the scene when Tonka was shot have come to the hospital check on how he is doing.

Please help us raise money to pay for Tonka's medical bills! We will be periodically checking in with updates on how he is doing. Donations will also be accepted at Sierra Veterinary Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. Any money donated that exceeds Tonka's medical costs will be donated to Sierra Veterinary Hospital's program to help young pets in life threatening positions and to our Humane Society.

Thank you so much for your support!
