This is without exception the most devastating news we have ever heard and we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to you, your beautiful kids, and your family. Words cannot begin to erase the heartbreak you are experiencing -- and while time will help -- for the foreseeable future the pain will hurt so badly there will be days when you feel like God is asking way too much of you. Please take consolation in surrounding your home -- and car -- with photos of Harold, you and your kids and try hard to focus on all the wonderful memories you guys shared. Lean hard on your family, friends and your kids to give you the strength to move through these difficult days -- tomorrow is always better than today.. Because West Nile Virus is now in nearly all states and based on a recent article I read from the CDC in Atlanta, the symptoms described in that article seem to be almost parallel with what took Harold’s life. If there are any of his blood tests remaining at the hospital, it would certainly be beneficial for you to consider checking with the CDC and see what types test your local hospital -- or the CDC -- can run to determine if West Nile may have been the cause. It is so difficult not knowing what took your handsome husband and dad to your kids away. Please stay in touch with Cara as we chat with her almost daily, so that will help us as well. My heart breaks for your family. You and your children will be in my prayers! While I do not know what it is to have my husband pass before me, my 20 year old son died suddenly from an undiagnosed heart condition 6 months to the day that your husband went to be with the Lord. He was attending Calvary Chapel Bible College and was due to graduate in May. He went to be with his Lord in the early morning hours of March 18. My heart was crushed. The most useful thought that made it thru all my jumbled aches, pains and confusion in those early days of grief was a passage I read in a Gregg Laurie book. When he was questioning all the "whys" and "what if" of his son's death, his pastor told him, "Don't trade what you know about God for what you don't know." As I have struggled with the "whys" and "what ifs" surrounding my particular situation, I hold on to that advice. I know God loves you. He loves your husband and children....that is what I know. We may not have any answers this side of heaven to the "whys" and "what ifs". When the foundations of our life are shaken, cling to the God of Hope who loves you with an everlasting Love. In my time of grief, I found I had no choice but to cling to Him. I pray that His children that He has placed around you during this time will bless you and your children with all the practical support you will need, as well as hold you up and surround you in prayer! I love you!

I know it's not much, but I couldn't even imagine losing my husband, especially while my kids are young. My heart goes out to the Barlow family.
