Fundraiser Details

My best friend's little brother has Duchenne Muscular-Dystrophy. For those of you who don't know, Muscular-Dystrophy is a group of diseases that attack the muscles, making them eventually completely unusable, slowly killing the body. Duchenne is the worst type of the dieases. This poor boy can barely move his head/neck, and can only use his hands enough to use his electric wheelchair.

Just last week the only transportation he has to the doctor's office, hospital, whatever the appointment may be, broke down. Something happened with the engine and it's going to take $3,000 in order to get it fixed.

Needless to say, having a child with any disease is extremely expensive and puts a LOAD of financial stress on any loving parent. They're having a real hard time making ends meet just with keeping food on the table so an event like this is absolutely catastrophic for them. Even the most minuscule donation would mean the world to this family. Every penny and dime made from this fundraiser will be going directly towards the $3,000 needed to fix the van, if there's more than $3,000 made, the extra will be put towards his future medical expenses.

EDIT 12/20/13: After getting the van looked at further, the mechanic determined it may cost a little more than the $3,000 projected, so I raised the original goal of $3,000 to $6,000. All still going towards the van and Jacob's needs.

The last update was worded wrong, we didn't mean to make people unweary. We're just trying to keep everyone informed that he's not outta the hot water yet, and we're just looking for people to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you.

Hey all! Just want to say thanks for the continued support. I hope everybody had an amazing Christmas as the countdown to the new year begins. Van is still in the shop getting worked on, but so far things are looking pretty good. Keep up the amazing support and Happy New Year to all!

Forgot one thing, it also needs a new O2 sensor.

So, it's the headgasket, a header, and potentially all three catalytic converters. That's the reason for the increase, just to keep everyone updated.

So continuing with the issues, Bill found more problems with the van, potentially causing a higher cost. =\ Just keeps going up and up.

So we talked to the mechanic this morning, and right now it's looking like the basic stuff is going to cost about $3,500. He isn't sure if it's going to need new oxygen intakes or if there's anything wrong with the catalytic converter so it may in deed cost a bit more than $3,500. Just trying to keep everyone up to date. Thank you all for the continued support and constant sharing. =]

So, we got some not-so-very-good news today. We brought the van to get checked out, and not only is a head-gasket blown, but apparently it needs a little bit more than that. We aren't sure exactly on the cost anymore because we were unaware of anything else other than the head-gasket. So for now I'm going to bump up the goal to $4,500 just in case. Please continue to share and show all the support.

Again, I'd just love to thank everybody for the help. This truly is a Christmas Miracle for Jacob. The family was ecstatic when we told them what we had accomplished. Any more donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you all!!!

I originally made this fundraiser thinking it truly wasn't going to go anywhere. I set the deadline date to be months from now, but in less than a day we've reached the goal. We may have reached the original goal, but everything extra will be going to medical bills and all his regular needs such as heat for those who still wish to donate. Again, thank you all for your love and support, I'm in shock.

We've recieved a couple donations outside of this fundraiser from some local shops around town and from people who personally know him, but the $3,000 is what's still left over.
