My name is Jenna Andrews, I am 30 years old and a convert to the Catholic faith. I came into the Church through the help and teaching of many of the Dominican Fathers and Brothers at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC and was baptized at St. Peter's Church on Capitol Hill in 2010.
After three years of living the faith and over a year of active discernment I have heard the Lord calling me to join the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne. The Sisters spend their lives caring for those who have terminal cancer but are too poor to receive adequate end-of-life care elsewhere.
I visited and stayed with the Sisters several times; joining them in their communal life of prayer and service to the poor, and became more certain that the Lord was calling me to give my life to Him in this same service with the Sisters. This was confirmed when I was accepted to the community this past May, and I give thanks to God for such a blessing and the chance to join the Sisters in their life and work.
I hope to enter this October 7th, 2013, however, there is one thing that stands in the way of following this call and this is my student loans. Thankfully I have been blessed with a full-time job and so I will make payments on my loans until I enter Hawthorne. However, the balance of my loans is $32,336.25, with a 4.55% interest rate - far more than I can pay myself by mid-September of this year in order to enter on October 7th.
That is why I am asking for donations and for prayers to help pay off my student loans and clear the path for me to join the Hawthorne Dominicans.
