On the evening of June 8th, 2013 a local animal shelter confiscated 52 bunnies as part of a pending investigation. The rabbits were being raised for meat. June 7th saw record-breaking temperatures and some of the bunnies died in the sweltering 111 degree heat, cramped in tiny cages filled with other bunnies and left to languish outside.
SHRS volunteers have stepped up and are coordinating efforts to support the shelter with additional volunteers and we anticipate helping with medical expenses and feeding expenses as well, including getting these young rabbits altered should they become available for adoption.
Funds raised will go directly to the immediate care of these 52 rabbits, for as long as they are in custody of the shelter. Any funds left over will go to SHRS general fund to help other bunnies in need.
