Lazicki’s has helped hundreds of unwanted parrots

find new, loving homes

Lazicki’s Bird House and Rescue is the only rescue in Rhode Island to focus exclusively on re-homing abused, and unwanted exotic parrots.  This work is desperately needed.  We receive approximately 10-20 calls per week from people looking to relinquish, or needing emergency placement for their bird.  Many birds do not come from the best of situations; coming to us missing eyes, toes, feathers and worst of all with broken spirits.  Now in our 17th year, Lazicki’s has helped hundreds of birds find better lives because of the dedication and sacrifice of those who believe in us.

We won’t be able to continue without your help.

We received devastating news earlier this month that our building has fallen into disrepair and will need to be demolished.   We only have until December 30, 2013 to find a new facility to house our flock of close to 70 parrots and continue this important work.  Rental costs for commercial properties here in Wakefield are higher than what we are currently paying. The spaces we have found so far in our price range will require extensive renovations in order to meet the needs of the birds currently entrusted to our care.

We cannot make these renovations without you. Your support will ensure that the birds you see in this video will continue to have:

  • a comfortable home and loving daily interaction
  • proper sunlight for their health
  • cleaning facilities to keep the rescue spotless
  • space to allow the birds to fly and stretch their wings

Please help us raise our goal of $10,000.00 to assist in offsetting renovation and rental costs so that we can continue this important work.  To learn more about our rescue’s history and the birds who currently call our rescue home, please visit www.lazibirds.org or find us on facebook at www.facebook.com/grammiecracker.

With your support, we will face this new challenge head-on and make a wonderful new home for the Lazicki parrots!

A huge thank you to everyone who pitched in to lend us a hand during this fundraising campaign.  We are beyond grateful!  The floor in the new location was in pretty rough shape, and the cement sander was no help at all so we decided to use these mats to cover the floor.  They were approved by the state vet and will not only insulate the floor from heat loss but will also be soft on volunteers' feet.  The floor issue delayed our move by a few days but we are on our way to being open for business in Warwick. We would have never been able to afford these thick, durable mats without your help.  For a photo check out our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/grammiecracker

It's official! We got the keys to the new place today and I had the privilege of helping Steve rip up carper for a bit this afternoon. Having done that - I realize what a labor intensive job that is (for me anyway). LOL If anyone would like to assist Steve tomorrow (Sunday, December 22) in this process - he will be at the new location (2141 West Shore Road Warwick) beginning at noon! Thanks!

We are just about there folks. Waiting on one last inspection of the new facility by the fire marshal and the keys to the new place are ours!  We are beyond excited to begin fresh at 2141 West Shore Road Warwick!
We have already begun packing up toys and perches into boxes, and steam cleaning empty cages.  We have had so many offers from the community to assist us in the move - we feel truly blessed.  Here is a little video we made as we get closer to moving day. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsTs_juopos

A huge thank you to everyone who attended tonight's Big Move Pub Fundraiser!  More than 40 parrot- loving people came out to support our cause. THANK YOU ALL!

We are also pleased to report that it looks like we have secured a new location and will be heading to Warwick within the month.  The new location at 2141 West Shore Road Warwick will provide a lot more room, separate rooms for play, bonding,  quarantine,  and some lovely natural light.  We will be doing some work to get the space ready and will post pictures soon.

Thank you everyone for making this possible.  Your donations will help offset the higher rent and prep this wonderful new space.  Because of you, we can continue to provide parrots in desperate situations with safe and loving shelter while they wait to find their forever homes. :)

Hey Everyone! We have really been moved by everyone's generosity and support! Many thanks from the Lazicki crew!

We wanted to take a minute to update everyone on our progress. We have a couple of spaces that we are looking into.  Cross fingers that one of them will work out in terms of price and zoning! We are also still actively looking for others as time is of the essence.

In the meantime our wonderful volunteers Nicole and Dan have put together a pub event to help us reach our fundraising goal for the big move. Tickets are $10 each and includes pizza and wings. So come to Elmhurst Pub and have some fun with the Lazicki's staff! For more info:

Thanks again for supporting our efforts. We can't do this alone. But together we can!
