Dear Friends and Family –
Greetings from New York University’s Midwifery Class of 2013. Graduation is fast approaching and we are so looking forward to becoming members of this wonderful profession. As future midwives, we are passionate about delivering quality care not only to women here in New York City, but also to those living in less fortunate circumstances throughout the world.
In June, several members of our graduating class are planning a Midwifery Mission trip to Rwanda. One of our classmates grew up in Rwanda and has inspired us to create a midwifery outreach program connecting NYU Student Midwives with patients and staff in a low-resource hospital in Nygatare. After conducting a needs assessment, we have determined that the major health disparities affecting mothers and babies include postpartum hemorrhage and initial resuscitation of newborns. While in Rwanda, we plan to offer educational sessions for local birth attendants to encourage prevention and improve management in low-resource health facilities. Additionally, we will provide direct care to women throughout labor and birth. We hope our work will empower the women of Nygatare and positively impact the community as a whole.
In order to provide quality care to women and families in Rwanda, we need your help! Your generous donation will ensure the success of our initial Midwifery Mission trip and ultimately, a lasting partnership in Rwanda. We really appreciate your support as we embark on this new adventure in global midwifery.
Thank you so much!
