After serving and working with low income families and the homeless in local communities, my heart has been opened to reach out to those in other countries. A missionary opportunity has been offered for me to go and serve in Jamaica, through an organization called the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf.
I will leave the country in May and, plan to stay there until July 12th-- almost 2 months. While I am there, I will be working with deaf children and adults in several different communities in Jamaica. Many live in severe poverty. My vision is to make as big of a difference as I can in their lives while I am there.
Some specifics of activities I plan on this missionary trip include:
-- Work with both deaf and hearing adults who are living in my village and helping them & with their children
--I will help and teach students at both Knockpatrick and Montego Campuses, preparing them for their finals at the end of June.
-- Pray with them, spreading the word of God to those in less advantageous environments is a very important goal
-- Share my story, God’s unfailing love and how God has gave me strength through it all
--Teach speech and sign to CODAS (Children of Deaf Adults)
-- Help out with mission teams and projects in the communities
As most already know, I have two passions that include helping others of all ages and sign language. This missionary trip is so important to me because I feel God is encouraging me to take this opportunity to give and grow. It is allowing doing both of my passions together at the same time.
