As some of you may know, I am trying to raise money to afford the opportunity to travel to both Cambodia and Thailand next May for three weeks with my graduate school cohort. The trip is treated as a class and is worth 3 credit hours. During the course of the trip, I will be studying how to counsel young victims of human trafficking. Needless to say, this would be an amazing opportunity for me to gain awareness of multiculturalism, the issue of human trafficking, and techniques to counsel those who have been through immense sexual trauma in childhood. It would be an experience of a lifetime and would truly help me in becoming an excellent counselor in the future.
In addition, I have never traveled outside of the United States. It has always been a dream of mine to travel overseas to do mission work and help others better their lives. I would be forever grateful to be able to make my first trip out of the US one in which I could be a part of something that will change others' lives.
Here is a little bit about the organization my cohort and I would be traveling with: http://www.destinyrescue.org/us/
While this is a wonderful opportunity for my educational experience and my own personal growth, it does come with a cost. The total cost of the trip is approximately $4000. Indiana State University is offering a scholarship for $1000 to each student who goes on the trip. That means I am responsible for raising the remaining $3000 in order to go to Cambodia and Thailand, in addition to passport costs, shots, etc. While I plan on saving up some of my own money from my work-study job, taking out a student loan, and asking for travel money for my birthday/Christmas gifts, the amount to go on the trip is still out of my comfortable affordability. So, I am asking you, my friends and family, if you could help me out. Every little bit counts, and it all adds up. I would greatly appreciate any donation that is feasible. It would go toward helping me grow into the wordly, cultured person that I want to be, become an understanding and effective counselor in the future, and helping victims of human trafficking in these areas.
You would have my never-ending gratitude for any contribution you could make.
Thank you for your support,
