As many of you know, my youngest brother, Patrick, has been in the ICU since January 2nd with the flu.
Patrick, who just turned 45, was life flighted to Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville on January 2nd. He and his wife, Julie, were sick with the flu but because they didn't have enough money for both of them to go to the hospital, she went and they shared the medication. Patrick has the worst strain known as H1N1 or the "swine flu".
When he arrived at the hospital he was only receiving 30% oxygyn which has in turn resulted in brain damage. The extent is unknown as they can't do much neurological testing as he's heavily sedated and on life support. One of his lungs was 100% full of fluid and the other 80 %. He's on 24 hour dialysys to try to get as much fluid out as possible. His prognosis isn't good but we are fighting to remain hopeful and optimistic as you can never predict what's going to happen.
So many of you have reached out offering prayers and condolences and we are so thankful for that. Everyones support has meant the world to us.
Many people have asked me if I could create an account through this site for anyone to donate. 100% of all contributions will go directly to them; every little bit helps. Please keep us in your prayers. If my tears could be "thank yous", there would be many buckets!
I know that it has been a while since I have updated. It is with great sadness to inform you that we have been gathering to say our goodbyes to Patrick and to let him go to heaven and finally be at peace.

His beautiful smile warm and tight hugs compassion and beautiful eyes will be missed by all. We love you Patrick always and forever!!!!!

Patrick continues to slowly improve.....White blood cell count dropping....Being weined off ventilator......Still on dialysis as they reduce sedation......Responded to my voice and touch yesterday.....The next 4-5 days will tell us more about the extent of organ damage.......He's still in serious condition and we continue to ask for prayers.
I wanted to let everyone know the good news. I just called the hospital..Update...white blood cell count down to 35000 from 44000 (Praise the Lord)..vital signs are good. He's still at 60% on the vent and no fever...Reducing sedation...trying to wake Pat up......this is what we have been praying for. Keep fighting Patrick!!!
I wanted to thank everyone for their donations for Pat. I am overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and I want to give you all an update on Patrick.
The ICU team of doctors called in the infectious disease team to take a look at Patrick. They think his body may have become resistant to the antibiotics he has been receiving.
He is still on the life support and kidney dialysis. He has been fighting high fevers on and off for days do to the infection. Spinal fluid was clear. Yesterday the minister came to check on pat and the family I asked for a prayer to be given at his bedside as I held Patrick's hand I could see what I thought was a tear at the corner of his eye. Keep the prayers coming. I will post more updates soon. Nancy
