This fundraiser is closed

This fundraiser was created in hopes of helping Mr. Milliken's family with funeral and memorial expenses.  On Christmas Eve of 2012, Deshawn Milliken was called home, as he was senselessly gunned down while celebrating the Seahawks victory inside a Bellevue establishment called the Munch Bar.  Losing Deshawn is a blow not only to friends and family but to the whole community.  Often serving as the "glue" between his family and friends, he will be missed.

Deshawn was a father, brother, son, uncle, grandson, friend, provider, protector and role model to many.  A beacon of positivity, Deshawn touched many lives.  For instance, he adopted a daughter, fed the less fortunate, and took care of numerous at-risk youths in the central district area that lacked  father figures.  He was the type of person that would you give you his car while he rode the bus.  He was extremely caring, loving, protecting, and always willing to lend a helping hand.

More importantly, he leaves behind a loving mother who has been with the public defender's office for more than thirty years, a sister whom he helped raise, a young daughter, and an infant nephew whom he cared after like his own.

The loss of Deshawn Miliken has stunned our entire community.  Please join me in donating towards his funeral expenses.  If anyone deserves to be sent off the right way, it is our brother Deshawn Milliken.

Deshawn Milliken. A natural born leader unlike any I have ever seen. Absolutely one of a kind. Unbelievable. One of the great honors of my life was to be your friend and the appreciation you showed me. Your capacity to love and to be loved is unmatched. To make people value themselves. As I write this I am devastated but I am also smiling as I reflect on who you were. A legendary figure. A true genius. I have never seen anything like it. A person like you comes once in a generation, if that. I could go on and on, much like your spirit will as it spreads to us. You will be with me wherever I go and you will be a part of everything I do. You lived a fuller life and had a bigger impact on the world in 30 years than most of us will have if we live to be 100. Thank you for everything my friend. My deepest love and condolences to Wanda and Destiny. Take comfort in the fact that DMill is not gone. He is just blazing the trail to the next stage like he always did. Your friend, “Avocado”

Cyndi, Devin, and Coach Cutlerwords, actions or loving embrace which could possible touch the pain a parent endures due to the loss of a child. For our inability to release you of this pain Cyndi and I are sorry. All children learn to walk a tight rope! All fall! Most get up! Some grab the outstretched hand of others! While some see no hope and just quit trying! Then their was your gift to the CD community. As D-Mills former HS FB coach you gave us a child who stood as a beacon with a raised voice of Here! Grab My Hand! Believe! In Yourself! As I Believe In You! I Care! We Can! This Shall Pass! And By The Grace of God! As D-Mill's mother I would like to acknowledge the gift you provided to the CD community, while his loss is Great! The number of those who Grabbed his Hand and is now standing with their own outreached Hand is greater! Hey! D say Hi to Dayne for me. May you both rest in peace.

Wanda, no words, actions or loving embrace could possible touch the pain a parent endures due to the loss of a child.

I send the highest level of my condolence to the family of "D". You are the realest guy I have ever met and I love you for your realness and honesty. To his mother, although I've never met you I want you to know that he loved you more than any woman alive, he talked about you so much and appreciated everything you taught him I've heard plenty about you. As for his sister he wouldn't let a fly harm you and he always wanted the best for you make him proud Ma. I'll miss you Dad and when we meet again I still want my dinner and my movie. ??????

My Baby Love, the way you came back in my life was truly a miracle! I wish I had been awake to get that text from you before all the madness went down. If I had known u were looking for me we'd have had more time. You were such an amazing man. You provided for, held down, & came through for so many people. I'm glad that you got the chance to meet my son. So glad the bond we have will always remain through distance & time. The last 6months with you were the best by far! I will love you in death just like I loved you in life. I am praying for the family's strength & comfort.

Wanda, Destiny & family-- My heart is breaking for you and this unimaginable loss. I remember Deshawn from the time he was a little boy. He was just like his mother: a huge smile & a joyful attitude 24/7. I hope you can find some measure of peace in the knowledge that Deshawn truly made a difference in the world during the short time he was here.

D...where do i start, man? You were an amazing person...and will ALWAYS be an amazing person...I remember when I first got to Garfield and saw your name AT THE TOP of the G.H.S. BENCH PRESS chart on the wall in the gym - I was like, "WHO THE HECK IS THAT?!?!" that was back BEFORE Coach Carr hooked up the weight room inside the school on the 2nd floor - - - and everybody was hittin' the weights back in the old-school weight room with all the machines & mirrors. AFTER, when i first SEEN YOU (with my own two eyes) stack on 6 FOURTY-FIVE POUND PLATES and REP (x10) that EASILY? i TRIPPED - never seen nothing like that in my life. and then, when i saw you EASILY out-bench (max.) Coach Carr, Coach Wilson, Coach Jackson, Coach Peller, Coach McWashington, ETC...i TRIPPED...you were stronger in HIGH SCHOOL than FULL-GROWN MEN that completed four years of COLLEGE FOOTBALL / TRACK PROGRAMS. that was super-human - something that i'll NEVER forget. same thing when we all used to go down to GATEWAY to train with Willie Austin...MAN - when people saw you lift ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, they were SHOCKED. what i'm trying to say is that WHEREVER you went and WHATEVER you did, YOU INSPIRED PEOPLE. same thing during hitting drills...I'LL NEVER FORGET - it was you and Andy Spieth - HEAD UP on the hittin' drill, bro...the whole squad was circled up around ya'll...and ya'll was in the middle...AND WHEN THAT WHISTLE BLEW, and you and Andy collided? WOW, man...i was like, YEAH!!! I'M TRYING HIT LIKE THOSE GUYS!!! the talent you had, the humility, the smarts, the leadership qualities; you were the MAN to me, bro...you were the MAN to EVERYBODY...you will ALWAYS be the man. you had a cold sense of humor, too...remember when you used to always clown the O-Line for not blocking??? that was CLASSIC COMEDY! in the locker room, YOU set the tone...on the football field, YOU set the tone...in the classroom...YOU set the tone...I LOVE YOU, man...WE ALL LOVE YOU, and you'll ALWAYS be an INSPIRATION and a LEGEND to everybody that knew you. - one last thing - i hope i didn't let you down by not going to the next level - you believed in me more than i believed in myself...it was a pleasure knowing you, blocking for you, representing the dog house with you, and watching you shine. i know you're watching out for all of us - you was "FAT-BACK" and i was "NO-GRADES", lol...old-school; coach Hamp (with the glasses)...save me a locker next to yours up there, alright, D? LOVE YOU, MAN. Michael "Gangsta Mike" Curry - #37 - G.H.S. C / O 2001

As all the memories flood my mind. I notice in everyone it included your big smile and healthy laugh. I remember me my wife Sherrica, my brother Donta, Janika, Troy, and YOU and your date put up our OWN money for a limo for the 10th grade Tolo. One word sums that night up 'EPIC'. All who knew you know D.MILL knew how to PARTY! I also remember when I lost my Grandma in 1995 the hardest time of my life up to that point. YOU prayed with me on your porch as I cried. To think back that wasn't the normal reaction of a 13yr old. YOU WAS EXCEPTIONAL!! I also remember We hung out all night the night before our S.A.T test we stayed the night at my big brother's house got maybe 2 hrs of sleep, woke up my brother didn't want to drive us and gave me the keys to his 72' drop top Chevy Caprice. IT WAS OVER LOL!! We took the test and took the LOOONG WAY back stopping EVERYWHERE! LOL COME TO FIND OUT EVEN AFTER HANGING OUT AND ONLY 2HRS OF SLEEP YOU STILL SCORED HIGHER THEN ME AND DONTA COMBINED HAHA. I GUESS WE WAS JUST REGULAR HUMAN BEINGS COMPARED TO YOU.I REALLY LOVE YOU DESHAWN, DESTINY, AND MISS WANDA THE WHOLE MONTGOMERY FAMILY Prayers UP!! IM SURE ILL SEE MY FRIEND AGAIN

We loved you but GOD loved you more. But I wont be dismayed at this goodbye. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. My brother Deshawn was there for all of my battles...only 2 years older than me, he was a big brother to me. Whenever I needed advice, he gave it to me raw and uncut. If it weren't for Deshawn, I wouldn't have graduated from law school. He was the one dude who kept me out the streets and pushed me to make it out. He was so happy for me....Im glad that we got to grow close over the last 15 years....I will not let my brother die in vain. I am going to do great things and keep your name alive.

Kellitra Bunton

"Wassup playa?!" I am saddened that I will never be greeted by you with those words ever again. When I saw you last month in November, it was the first time we saw each other or spoke in several years.. I cherished that night we ran into each other and not only was our meeting very pleasant but you showed me all kinda love giving me handshakes & hugs throughout the entire night. My recent memory of you will be forever burned in my mind not having any idea that those would be the last handshakes & hugs I would ever get from you as well as our final time together we would get to chop it up. I member back in 2001 when I was recording my very first album in my bedroom and I asked for you to bless it with some of your mack game and you happily granted my request. I told you how we should do it and you told me how we should do it for the interlude and you were right on point with your part and it came out fantastic! Now when I play that, it's no longer laughs, hearing now knowing you are no longer with us makes me tear up when I hear it. You were always supportive of me & my music. Rest in paradise Deshawn Eugene Milliken, you will be missed buddy. 2-D.

I watched DeShawn and Janika grow up together at Leschi elementary . They were so close and caring of each other. He and his cousin were academically focused with mothers that were always there supporting encouraging and giving them structure and guidance. all i could do was scream when i heard he had died. God help the family hold them close.
