Officer Thomas Decker was responding to a routine welfare check call on the evening of November 29, 2012 in Cold Spring, MN.

Decker and his partner responded to an apartment above Winners Sports Bar and Grill at approximately 9p.m. where Decker was shot and passed away from his injuries. No one else was injured.

Officer Decker is a 2002 graduate of Alexandria Technical College. In March of 2006, Decker began serving the cities of Cold Spring and Richmond and was the firearms instructor and the use of force instructor.

Cold Spring Police Chief Phil Jones says Decker was a “chief’s dream” and an active member of the community. Decker grew up on a farm south of the town with his parents, who still reside there.

“He was our department’s jokester,” Jones said. “He had a great sense of humor, and everyone who met him liked him.”

Decker is married with four young children.

Donations will cover the costs of approximately 1,000 memorial roses which will be passed out at Decker's funeral. Remaining funds will be provided to his family.

I'm sorry for your loss. In 27 years as a police officer, I went to too many funerals for these brave officers. However, I never left without feeling that the make they left on the world will be forever felt.

Officer Decker left behind a wife and four children. The least the community can do is offer a little bit of financial support to a family that has given everything to us. Rest in peace Officer Decker. Please watch over our men and women in blue.
