My boyfriend and best friend of 15 years has been in the hospital for two weeks in the ICU fighting for his life. He has been diagnosed with encephalitis which is a brain infection. Drs have sent our test after test and they can not figure out the cause of his infection. He is only 29..will be 30 on the 15th of Sept. He is on life support, has had both lungs collapse (which have gotten better, and the infection caused inflammation of his spinal cord leaving him paralyzed from the neck down..we are hoping it is only temporary. He has started to have some movement in his arms :) The drs are calling him a mystery...I'm hoping he gets better soon and makes it out of this. They say he isn't out of the woods yet :( He has no insurance so I am asking for help with his care as it is going to be a long journey and he will be out of work. I also have not been working so I can be by his side so on top of medical bills we also have rent and other monthly bills. He also has family needing help also. Any and all help is appreciated!

Masai has been a miracle and has made such great improvement! However, the encephelitis caused his immune system to attack his own body and went after his spinal cord, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. Drs do not know if he will ever walk again, or even feel anything below the waist again. Drs never found out the cause to this illness and it is beyond frusturating. It could happen to anyone. He is making great progess and has high faith that he will walk again. In the mean time we are accumulating all kinds of expenses such as wheelchair, shower bench, comode, medical supplies to care for him at home, adjustments to the house had to be made (we actually had to move), prescriptions and long time care right now. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated to help us through this nightmare!

Thank You to all who have contributed so far, we have 6 more days to continue to raise money and then this fundraiser will be closed.

Masai is still in the ICU (almost a month now). He now has a tracheotomy and the ventilator is going through it instead of through the mouth. He is much more comfortable and can talk (whisper). He has gained movement and feeling of his arms which is wondeful. He still does not have feeling or movement from the waist down though :( He has began to do CPAPS (initiating his own breaths) over the past day and is doing extrememly well with them. Yesterday he initiated his own breaths for 10 hours!!! So good!!! Drs say hopefully by the end of the week he will be off the ventilator. Today he started his occupational therapy and will aslo be getting his swallowing test to see if he can eat REAL food and he should pass! The Drs still have not discovered the cause of all of this but as long as he is on the upstream I am ok with that. Just wish we had a prognosis...

THANK YOU for all the donations so far!!! There is so much love out there for him and on behalf of him I say its very appreciated!!!

Masai, I know its been too many years since we have seen each other. I also know you and I were only in each others lives a short time but you were a very special part of my life. I've always had a special place in my heart for you and thought of you all the time, hoping life had given you nothing but blessings, love, and happiness. I care about you and love you. I know this isn't much money, I wish I could give more but for the money I lack I'v filled with love and prayers. I can't wait for you to feel 100% better.

Some doctors know this, but many don't. There are medicinal mushrooms that can help your immune system fight off the worst of cancers, viruses, bacterias and fungi infections. Don't take my word for it though, call Fungi Perfecti, a lab that produces the best supplements of these mushrooms you can find. Ask them to refer you to a doctor who can recommend types to consider. I'm no expert in this area, but I have seen these supplements help me immensely already, and I know of many other similar cases. You are in my prayers Masai. Please, just call these people. I believe this can help you as well. Fungi Perfecti LLC (fungi.com) 800-780-9126 Director of this lab, giving a presentation (skip to 2:40) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoJ2TgNdFh8

Masai I really think you will pull through this just two years ago my mom was in the hospital fighting for her life. Doctors did not know what to do. Through a miracle my mom started to get better the doctors said "We dont know what to do No one ever survives this" but she did through the power of prayer she is still alive and with us today, with that said I am praying so so Hard for your Health I believe you will get through this. Its going to be a long road maybe but with the support from Family and Friends you will pull through!!

Most of you that know me have not seen much as far as emotion from me unless you’ve drank WELL with me or are family. That said, I wanted to write something that would motivate some of you to donate to a cause that I presently hold dear to me. This is long and to many boring, but I believe that I would put myself out there like I haven’t done before in the hopes that some of you would find it within yourselves to make even the slightest difference in a person’s life. Some of you have heard of Masai Kenyatta’s present condition and dilemma. I won’t for the slightest bit pretend like I am best friends with Masai or have even so much as spoken to him via telephone. I have however added him on my Facebook as many of you have with old High School friends and have been in touch with him since. I write to you all to ask of you for help. Many of us donate for causes and organizations where we see no differ ence, whether it be disease research, religion, aid organizations or even political groups. I ask for help in the form of a donation, small as you can muster in order to add to a small effort to help someone in our immediate or extended community. In our short time since rekindling our old friendship over the social network Masai has been able to make me laugh a few times. I use this as an outreach tool, and I admit that this is a test. I am testing the effectiveness of the social network of helping a friend in our community. I am testing and challenging you all to make a small difference in the hope that a small donation can become a grandiose gesture of pride. Whether it be pride in our community, pride in our High School or pride in our shared humanity let’s attempt this. All it takes is a few clicks and keyboard strikes. I do this not for my own purposes, and I hope none of you do. I do this because we all share a history together. Masai was a small part of some of the best moments I had in the short time we have here. When I remember him I remember the brotherhood we shared by being part of the SC Football team. I remember a specific play where he proved to me and many of us, the heart he had. These memories are worth the effort you all have seen me put forth. I would put the same effort forth for any of you. These memories are worth a small donation from my part and I hope you find it within yourself to find a reason to make that small donation. Pride, Love, Good Karma? Doesn’t matter in the end… A few clicks and keystrokes and you contribute and make a difference.

Lacy
Hello, My name is Lacy and I saw this on a friend's facebook page. I just wanted to share with you that almost four years ago I was in and out of the hospital with meningitis turned encephalitis. The doctors were also sending test after test to try and figure out the source of infection. I went before review boards of doctors because they were so stumped. In the mean time my condition was getting worse. I was begging to have paralysis on one side of my body and becoming very combative. Finally a nurse (my guardian angel) told my mom to insist that the doctors give me a steroid (prednisone) Doctors were against it but my mom insisted and things turned around from there. I immediately got better and have no lasting effects today. They never found the cause or type of infection but didn't seem to matter. I got better and that nurse saved my life. I read your story and it reminded me of my own. I wish you luck and you with both be in my prayers. God bless -Lacy
