Michelle PoplarMini is doing very well and is back at school part time. She's gained back most of the weight she lost and is looking and feeling so much better. Her physio is helping a lot and she has regained most of her mobility.

Michelle PoplarHi everyone! Mini is easing back into school. She spent an hour this morning reuniting with her friends and classmates. :) She'll be attending only half days for a while, per her doctors recommendation. So far, so good though.
Her dad and I are still far in debt though. Although Mini is getting better, we're still missing work to take her to all her follow up appointments. We could still use your help.
I'm trying to stay positive, but it's at the point where the electric company is threatening to cut us off, and I have no idea how all the rent will get paid at the end of this month. Any help you can give would be so much appreciated.

Michelle PoplarMini is doing well at home. We have a great home care team of nurses and physiotherapists working to get her back on her feet.
I hate to keep asking, but bills are once again piling up. Her dad and I are only able to work part time so someone can be with Mini. At 10, she's too young to stay home alone. We're juggling schedules and money, and it is just not enough. Her prescriptions and medical supplies cost way more than we anticipated and we're struggling to make ends meet.
I can't tell you how much the support, emotional and financial, has meant to us. Thank you!

Michelle PoplarMini is home! =D She's doing really well and is happy to be recuperating in her own space. Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared our story.
We still could use a little help. Mini won't be back at school for a couple of weeks which means her Dad and I will still be missing work to care for her. Some of her prescriptions and medical supplies are more expensive than we anticipated and the bills are piling up.
Any further help people could give would be much appreciated. Thank you so much! We could not have done it without all of you. <3

Michelle PoplarMini is still in hospital and doing well. She's been getting out of bed and doing a little walking and finally has some colour back in her cheeks. If all goes well she should be home in a week or so to finish her recovery. Thanks so much for the continued support. <3

Michelle PoplarMini had her surgery yesterday and it went very well. She still has a bit of a hospital stay in front of her to recover and to put some weight back on. Thanks again to everyone who has helped us out so far. <3

Michelle PoplarMini has taken a turn for the worse. She's not responding to any medications to get her colitis under control. She's lost a lot of blood and has had to have a transfusion. Her health care team has advised us that she needs surgery to remove her diseased colon. The good news is that after the surgery she will be cured. The bad news is that she'll have to live with an external ileostomy for a few years until she is finished the majority of her growing. Then an internal waste collection pouch can be created.
The doctor has told us she'll need to remain in hospital a few more weeks, to recover from surgery, and to gain back some of the weight she's lost. This will cause huge financial strain on us, her family. I appreciate any further support people are able to contribute. Even a few dollars will make a huge difference to us. Thanks so much.

Michelle PoplarAs of today we're still in hospital. The steroids weren't working so the doctors are trying another drug. We're kind of in wait and see if it works mode and just trying to get through each day.
Mini is holding up very well thanks to the stellar nursing staff at Sick Kids Hospital. Their amazing care and patience with her has made a terrible situation that much more bearable.
I'll keep you posted as we know more about her progress. For now we're waiting and hoping.
Thanks again to everyone who has helped out. We couldn't do this without you!

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis when I was around 10 years old, and although it's well-controlled and I never needed surgery, it's definitely not fun. I hope Mini Pop feels better soon!

My daughter was ill with severe GERD (GastroEsophogeal Reflux Disease) that reared it's ugly head when she was 9 years old. 7 years and many hospital stays, missed school, then having to be home-schooled, she received an operation at Stanford Medical Children's Hospital (Packard) in San Jose, CA. She had some genetic malformations in her GI tract and they went in there and kind of rearranged and nipped and tucked and basically gave her her life back when she was 16.
My heart goes out to you. I remember days of holding her at 12, 13 and older because there was nothing for the pain. Only a parent can do that (not a babysitter, nurse, etc.).
I am visualizing the best possible outcome for Mini and your family.
