TODAY IS YOUR DAY TO CHANGE SOMEONES LIFE!

Paula has worked 19 years in the health care field, and took great satisfaction in helping others feel better. Shortly after losing the job she loved, Paula underwent surgery for a benign 6 1/2 lb tumor on her ovary. After weeks of complications Paula finally came home. Getting off Coumadin treatments after almost 2 years, Paula thought this nightmare was behind her, but unknowingly was just the beginning. After seeing the Doctors again, Paula was diagnosed with Portal vein thrombosis, and a rare genetic blood disorder released from earlier complications. November 2nd, 2012 Paula's quality of life changed drastically. Paula has been in 6 different hospitals to find a cure, with complications building, Paula's received over 12 pints of blood, multiple esophageal bandings from bleeding, repeated kidney failure, and an intestinal surgery which they did not think she would survive. With God's blessing, Paula is finally home awaiting a multi-visceral surgery.(5 organ transplant) Even though she spends 16 hours a day on IV's, her spirits are high that with the grace of God, she will prevail. Even though Paula has insurance, there are so many other expenses that are not covered, such as certain supplies for her ostomy, prescriptions, deductibles, co-pays, anti-rejection medication, and the prolonged expense to travel to and from Miami for follow-up Dr. visits after surgery. Already in debt of over $30K, and husband just having a heart attack, Paula nor the family any longer have the capabilities to do this on their own and are pleading to you for your HELP!!
In order to help Paula meet these uninsured medical costs, and monthly expenses, a fundraising campaign in Paula's honor has been established. Please help Paula with the expense of this life saving, cutting edge surgical procedure by making your contribution today.
Please use the helpful share icons to send the message to all your friends, and family via E-mail, Facebook, Twitter, etc. A no fee pay-pal account has been set up for your conveinence.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, and GOD BLESS.

Sorry I did not realize the last post did not show. Paula has been steadily doing better. She has had hopefully her last surgery last week to reverse her ostomy. She is home now, but is having a few stomach issues. We are scheduled to go to the doctors this week for a follow up, so we are praying what she is experiencing is somewhat normal for the surgery she had. Thank you all so much for your continued support, and prayers. We will keep you posted on the followup. God Bless, and have a great day.

Praise GOD, all the prayers are being heard!!!! Paula was able to return home Monday night. She was so happy, and excited to be coming home, after being in the hospital for 2 months. Thank you Lord!!!  They have sent her home with the drainage tube from the hemotoma she had, but on our visit back down to miami tomorrow for her follow up, they are planning on being able to pull it out. Please continue to pray for Paula as she still has a long recovery. We have a fun fundraiser event coming up on May 8th, from 4pm. to 8pm at Tutto Fresco's in St. Lucie West. Please save this day in your calendar, and tell your friends, it will be a great time. Will attach flyer when completed. Thank you all, for your support, and caring. God Bless.

Paula remains stable as she continues her recovery. If everything goes well she may be able to get off the feeding tube in a few days, as they put her on regular food. She still has the drainage tube from the large hematoma they removed, which is still draining, but they are going to put a new line in today and monitor closely to see if that can be removed soon. Thank you for all of your prayers, as we know this is the reason for her recovery. God Bless!

Paula is doing better, a couple days after she was taken off the respirator, they performed what is hopefully her last surgery. They went in to double check everything, and finish closing her up. They moved her out of ICU yesterday into a room on the transplant floor. She goes down today for a cat scan to make sure she has no leaks again, and to put in a new pick line, as they are trying to keep infections at bay. Paula appreciates all your prayers, and thinking of her. We have faith that she will now continue to improve, so she can come home soon. Please continue to pass along Paula's fundraiser to people who you believe could help, as assistance is very much needed at this time, and will even be more crucial when she returns home. We are also organizing a benefit coming up at the end of march, which will post the date when confirmed. Thank you for all your help, and prayers. God Bless.

Well Paula did make it back to her room for a few days, and it seemed like things were getting better. Sunday they gave her another transfusion of 2 units of blood as she was getting worn out fast, and found her blood count low. They had figured from her not really eating, and all the blood they been taking, is why she was low. She had alot of discomfort in her back, and felt bloated when she ate, so they did an MRI, and unfortunately had found a mass behind her stomach as big as a football, they figured it was a blood mass. Appearantly when they did the leak test to remove her drainage tubes, this did not show up, cause as it turned out it was oozing from one of her ateries, which was to slow for the test to read. Paula had to go back to surgery, where they had to remove the staples, and open her back up again to remove the large heotoma, she also had a infection which they are trying to narrow down where it's coming from. Monday, they were planning to go back in, as they did not close her up yet, and double check the leak area, and close her up. I just got word from the doctor that she had to be put on a respirator early this morning as she was having a hard time breathing again, which could still be caused from the blood clot in her lung. Paula is having a very rough time, so please, please keep her in all of your prayers. God Bless.

Paula has had a couple of set backs in the last few days as it started with very high blood pressure. The other night when she was trying to move around, she all of a sudden had a hard time breathing, the nurses gave her oxygen, and done some blood work, which then resulted moving her back to ICU. Through a series of tests, they found water on her lungs, which they put her on Lasiks, and a catheter to drain the fluids. Later that day they found a blood clot that had somehow got into her lungs which they determined was the cause for the hard breathing. They are giving her heparin shots to soften the clot, which hopefully they can dissolve. Doctor told her yesterday that today is going to be a better day, so please keep Paula in all of your prayers that she gets back on a better road to recovery. Thank you for all of your care, and concerns. God Bless.

Sorry we have not updated sooner, as Paula had been in the hospital a couple times before the holidays. She was offered organs 4 days before Christmas which she had accepted. By time we got all ready to leave, and Paula had called everyone with the good news, we received a call back from the hospital saying that the surgery had been scrubbed due to Paulas large antibody count from her blood disorder, against the organs she was receiving. The doctors felt she would not make it even with high doses of anti-rejection medication. Needless to say she was pretty disappointed, but we knew God had his own reasons.  Her last time after Christmas, she ended up with an infection which they believed was caused from her newer pic line. The doctor at that time sent her home with antibiotics around the clock, and told her she was next. They raised her meld score to a 25 from 21. On the night of the 7th of January around midnight she received another call about an organ donor, it was what they had considered a no risk donor. Unfortunately I had just got out of the hospital that night from having another heart cath procedure, and could not drive or do much of anything for the next 3 days. She really did'nt want to go without me, but we knew we had to make this work for her. One of her friends was kind enough to take her down there for me around 2 in the morning, and stayed with her till they took her in. What a true blessing that was. Thank God for great friends. Paula spent 10-11 hours on stage one of her surgery, and then another 10 hours on her 2nd surgery 2 days later, which was Friday. That's when they finished hooking up her colon, checking the other connection they made, and finish closing her up. They also added a new port where they attach a small piece of the colon to her side, which they can reverse later, but prevents her from having colonoscopies, 3 days a week. It is how they can put a scope in, and check her that way. Paula is still in alot of pain, and the doctor is getiing concerned that she has not had a bowel movement yet, but please keep praying for her, that everything continues on the right path. Her 1st 2-3 weeks will be most important, which is when they will know if her body is going to reject the organs or not. Again we know that God is looking over her, and will give her a great recovery. Paula really appreciates all of you for your concerns, and the help you have given. If you could please send this update to everyone you can, as I do not know how to do facebook, or very computer savvy, it would be greatly appreciated. If you know of any churches, organizations or individuals, that may be able to help us with this fundraiser, or make a donation, that would also be very helpful. Thank you for being in Paulas corner, and pray she will be home soon. Thank you all so much, and God Bless.

Well, yesterday was the 18th and we didnt hear anything yet from the hospital as to whether or not the organ donor pool changed from statewide to nationwide. This would probably mean I could get my transplant sooner. We will post when we hear something. In the meantime, we want to thank you all again for your love and support. God bless!

Hello friends and family,
We went down to Miami for my check-up yesterday. I was armed with a long list of questions which were all answered. The Dr. spent a lot of time with us and left us with the feeling that it may not be too much longer for my transplant. Some important rules are about to change making my odds of recieving organs better. The donor list will become nation wide rather than state wide, a much larger pool. I'm still on IV for feeding, 16 hours a day. I am stable and keeping my chin up. I could be in much worse shape than I am and thank God for that. Karl and I want to thank all of you for your love and support. God Bless you all!

Hi everyone,  I am feeling pretty good today, got some good news yesterday regarding my most recent blood work. The Dr's. changed the fluids in my IV feedings and in less than a week my kidneys have improved 9 points! I am currently stable and hope to stay that way. Thank God!
