We have met our goal to buy Dustin a new wheelchair!  Thank you.  However I've been contacted by several people that still want to donate, so Dustin can buy something for himself that he wouldn't normally buy or to use the money to pay for other recurring bills.  I just want to let you know that I'm reopening the fundraiser, but all money from this point on is not going toward a wheelchair, and will be given directly to Dustin for his personal use and discretion.  He told me to tell you all that he is very thankful and grateful for all the support given to him.  Happy Holidays!

Hi my name is Daryn Ogino, friend of Dustin Speedy Sylva.  I am organizing this fundraiser to help raise money, so Dustin can buy a new wheelchair.  Dustin's old wheelchair was stolen on Christmas Day (see article link below for the full story).

The goal is to purchase a motorized wheelchair from National Seating and Mobility in Kalihi.  I have contacted this company and they have confirmed the cost of Dustin's copay to be $2,077.86.  We will be putting half of this amount as the deposit on Monday, 12/31/2011.  The chair will be constructed and shipped from the mainland, so it will take approximately 3 weeks to get to Hawaii in which the remaining money is due.

So when you donate, where does the money go?  This fundraiser is linked to a PayPal account where the money is being deposited.  From there I will write a personal check to the wheelchair company directly.  I'm a local businessman and I'm confident that all my friends and colleagues will vouch for my integrity.  I know that during the holiday season their are a lot of scams going on, so if you have any concerns or questions please call me at 808-779-2556.  I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have and also give you some referrals at your request.  Mahalo for your time!

Ok we are at 46% of funding!  Awesomeness!  So I called National Seating and Mobility today, and confirmed that Dustin's insurance has approved him for this wheelchair and got exact numbers on what the total cost will be.  The cost of the Medicare copay is $2,077.86.  NSM is breaking the payments into 2, so the first deposit is for $1,038.93 and the remaining is due at delivery of the wheelchair.  FYI, it's coming from the mainland, so it will take approximately 3 weeks for it to get to the islands.  I'm going over to NSM on Monday to make the first deposit, so please forward this link to your friends and please donate whatever you can to make this possible.  Mahalo!
