Shaina Malka is still drowsy most of the time but when she is awake she is perfectly normal, baruch Hashem.
Today she walked with a special walker with the help of a physical therapist.
Some people have requested bank account details as they can't donate through the web site.

Today, we already have a little more than $8,000 on the site plus some offline donations. This comes to about $12,000 all together. This means that we have almost half of the money needed.
Condisering that we started with "0" funds and that your wonderful donations keep coming in, we are so fortunate, thank G-d.
Please continue supporting us.
With love and gratitude,
The family

The operation was a success, thank G-d! We got home half an hour ago after spending most of the day in the waiting room of Assuta Hospital. Professor Spector operated for 6 and a half hours. He told us afterwards that it was a very difficult operation. The tumor was very large and had affected the meninges (membrane around the brain) so the doctor implanted an artificial membrane.
Dr. Spector succeeded in removing the growth. Shaina is still under the influence of the anasthesia but her responses are all normal, thank G-d.
Thank you all again and again for your kind words and financial support.

Dear friends,
You will notice that the deadline has been extended by 3 months.
This is because together with this website and some outside donations, we have raised about one third of the sum. Yisrael has been successful in getting a loan for the rest which he must pay back within three months. Therefore, the extension.
Thanks again for your support. Please keep letting your contacts know about us.

You may have noticed that in the "gallery" pictures, Shaina looks very thin in two of them - one with a son and a daughter and one with her daughter. This is because she has been losing weight at an alarming rate for the last year and a half. Her appetite has been very surpressed and we guess it is the result of the tumor.

On Tuesday, Yisrael an Shaina went to Assuta Hospital for final tests before the operation. Actually, she had done all of these tests before but they wanted them to be as close to the surgery date as possible.
They tested her heart (she suffered a heart attack 15 years ago) with an ECHO machine to see if it was strong enough to sustain 7 hours of anasthesia. They also did a battery of blood tests.
So far, so good, thank G-d.
Our entire family are so excited and appreciative about the outpouring of support we have been getting from you wonderful people. Yisrael has gone from utter despair about the financial obligation to glowing optimism. Thank you again.

We are getting ready for the operation in one week, if all's well. We have been discussing how we will take turns in the waiting room. Yisrael, of course, will be there at the beginning and at the end.
Shaina feels fine but she has trouble with her speach and remembering words - this is why she went to the neurologist to begin with. He sent her for a scan and that's when they discovered the tumor.
Thanks again for all your support and good wishes.

We have noticed that several past talmidim of Rabbi Hyman, z"l have generously contributed. We want to ask them to forward the link to any other students that they know of. We know that Rabbi Hyman z"l has past students all over the world.
Thank you again and be blessed!

Many of you may be wondering why we opened this site so late - three weeks before the scheduled operation. The reason is because the diagnosis was given four weeks before the date and the doctor insisted that Shaina not wait more than four weeks.
It took us about a week to decide on the site and to get it set up.
Thank you again for your support. We are so grateful for every donation. Please keep them coming.

The first day of Succot was a very happy day for the Safras of Jerusalem. The married couples live in other cities so they stayed at nearby friends in Jerusalem in order to share the meals and give their mother encouragement. A joyous atmosphere permeated the small apartment and adjoining succah.
There are two weeks left till the 27th of October. We are all praying that the seven-hour operation will be a success.

Shaina's strong faith is sustaining her during this difficult time. Yisrael is still very concerned about the funding. The children are very concerned about their mother.
The contributions we're getting are so encouraging. Every one, no matter how small, makes such a difference.
We were very moved by the anonymous contribution of $1,000.
I'll be letting you all know how things are developing, if all's well.
