Once upon a time a soldier boy named Tom met a beautiful young woman and fell deeply in love.  They were married 11 months later. Three wonderful years went by and their first little boy, Declan was born healthy and full term!  Just five short months later, Tom and Rebecca got a big surprise.  They were pregnant, again...but this time it was twins!

Rebecca was severely ill with this pregnancy and soon found out through ultra-sound that one of the babies was having complications. Due to these complications, Rebecca and Tom were given the option to terminate the whole pregnancy or just the "Baby B."  Miller and Lucas (Baby B) were given their names very early in the pregnancy and both were loved so very much.  They both agreed to allow God 's will to done and were adamant in keeping both babies.

After a VERY complicated pregnancy, Rebecca went into labor April 22, 2013, just 29 weeks into the pregnancy. Miller (Baby A) was born at 4:52 p.m. and seconds later, Lucas (Baby B) was born.

Miller was 3lbs 6oz and was on a respirator for a short time as well as a feeding tube for approximately 3 weeks.   When he was two weeks old he contracted NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) which is a deadly infection of the intestines and gut.  He responded very well to antibiotics and was blessed not to have to have surgery.  Miller was released on June 13, 2013 after 7 1/2 weeks in the NICU.

Sweet Lucas was a tiny 2lbs 8oz.  Lucas was born with esophageal atresia (A condition where the esophagus does not attach to the stomach), an undeveloped right lung, a tracheoesophageal fistula (a abnormal connection from his trachea to his esophagus which cause leaks between his lungs and his stomach. This was surgically repaired when was a little over a month old).  Lucas also had a perforated bowel that was surgically repaired when he was just a day old.  On May 7th, Lucas had a barium study done to access the outcome of his bowel surgery.  The barium aspirated through the TE fistula into his under-developed right lung causing it to harden and deflate.  Because of this over the next few weeks his vitals crashed several times.  On Mother’s Day the Hannas were told that Lucas would probably only live a few more days.  Lucas is a fighter, however, and pulled through.  He is currently fighting persistent pulmonary hyper-tension, several infections, and mild bleeding in his brain, but continually amazes the doctors, nurses and his parents by his strength and will to live.  He is currently the most critical baby in the hospital’s NICU. The doctors expect Lucas to be in the hospital for an extended period of time.

Although Rebecca and Tom have some insurance, it will not be nearly enough to cover the insurmountable medical bills that  have come and will be coming for Lucas’s continued care.  Many people are praying for the twins, but so many have also asked how they can help.  Tom and Rebecca’s number one need after prayer is help financially.  Rebecca has had to quit her job so that she can care for her children and Tom is a student at a college in town, but has recently taken a position at a local company to help cover bills.  They need help.  Will you please consider blessing them with a financial gift?  It is a tangible way to show you care and to be a part of what God is doing in the Hanna’s lives.

***07-07-2013*** - Less than 36 hours after this fundraiser was started, sweet Lucas was taken to heaven to be with Jesus.   Please be in prayer for the family and consider a gift to help with the overwhelming medical bills and funeral costs.  Although deeply grieving the loss of one of their precious boys, their hope in Christ still remains strong and their desire to edify their Father continues to be their foundation.

Hi everyone, Tom here again. I just posted a new video that I put together for Lucas' visitation. I can't help but tear up every time I see this video. We miss Lucas' so much but we try and remember that his body is healed now and he is no longer in pain. Even knowing that I feel a little selfish still wanting him to be here with us. I know that he is eternally happy in Jesus' arms but I miss him so much that it hurts. I guess it is still going to be a long time until things get "easier". Until then we are taking it day by day and want to thank everyone for their generosity and prayers.

Hello everyone, this is Rebecca.  Tom and I would like to say a big heartfelt thank you to everyone who has support us, financially and in other ways.  We are going through every parent's worst nightmare.  Losing Lucas has been truly devestating, but we are comforted that he is healed in heaven.

We do not pretend to understand why God took our sweet boy to heaven so soon, but we still believe in God's faithfullness.  We are so thankful that God gave us 76 precious days with our beautiful boy.  We were told at the beginning of my pregnancy that he would probably not survive the pregnancy, so we got 76 more days with Lucas than we thought we would.  I will cherish those days forever.

My prayer is that God would use our sweet Lucas's life to bring glory to Him.  Lucas was such a little fighter, constantly beating the odds.  He proved that God's plans are bigger than ours.  That little boy experienced more love in his short 11 weeks here than some people experience over a lifetime.

Our lives are forever changed from getting to know this sweet boy.  Lucas made me a better person.  A better mother.  He truly changed me for the better.

Thank you all for everything.  You will never know how much you've blessed our family during our time of need.

Hey everyone this is Tom. It has been a while since we have updated. Considering what we are going through right now I would think that anyone has the right to a few days of silence. To those who do not know, our little superman Lucas passed away and went into the arms of Jesus on July 7, 2013. Rebecca, Declan, Miller and myself are trying to take everyday as it comes. July 7th was actually supposed to be Rebecca's due date. The loss of a child is something I would hope that no family has to endure. I stay awake at night and question why this has happened to our family. Also, why would our God take our precious little Lucas away from us. I have no answers to these questions and I doubt I will ever know the answers in this life. I want to take this time to thank everyone for their donations both anonymous and stated. Because of your generosity Lucas' funeral was paid for in full. I can never thank you all enough and you may never know how this has affected our lives, but I want to let you know that we are praying for strength in this trying time and we pray for our God to bless those who have blessed us with prayers and with the financial help you all have given. I will be trying to update at least weekly but please forgive me if I cannot. Thank you all and God Bless.

Hi, this is Sonya.  Just wanted to say a huge thank you to those of you who have given to and shared this fundraiser.  Also, your prayers are such a comfort to the Hanna's, and God is already working in His wonderfous ways to bless this sweet family. It is my prayer that in your giving, support, and prayers that you will be blessed as well.

Lucas's memorial service was beatutiful in every way.  From the music, to the message, to the scriptures that were chosen, the service in every way honored God and Lucas's life.   I wanted to let you all know that because of your financial support, precious Lucas's funeral expenses have been completely covered.  Thank you, thank you!  This was a huge comfort for the Hannas.

We will continue in our efforts to help Tom and Rebecca as the next few months go by.  Please feel free to share this link at anytime.  More than anything, when the Hanna's come to mind, would you consider it a gentle prompt from our Father to stop and pray for them right then?  Thank you for all you have done and are continuing to do.

So as most of you know, yesterday we had the funeral for Lucas. It was the second hardest day of our lives. We are struggling to make it through day by day, but somehow we are doing just that. All of the donations have been a huge help over the past week. We sincerely appreciate everything that everyone has done and may do in the future. So from the bottom of our families hearts we thank you all.

Our sweet, precious Lucas went to Heaven this morning.  He fought so long and hard, but now his sweet little body is healed in Heaven.  We will be forever thankful for the 11 precious weeks we were blessed to spend with Lucas.
