So I have had some trouble getting logged in the past month! Finally got my password reset. My counts have been low so they've had to postpone treatment quite a few times. So now it's the waiting game to see if they come up on their own. If not they have to give me a shot to increase the white blood cells. Trying to stay positive. I have another set of scans next week on Wednesday. Hope those pesky cancer cells are diminishing like last time! Thanks for continued prayers and positive thoughts. :) Michelle

by Michelle Morrell
So my treatment was postponed due to low white blood cells.  Rescheduled for early next week.  Today I am at Duke for a brain MRI.  Hopefully it will go well and I'll have a clean scan.  As always thanks for your support!

by Michelle Morrell
Went to work for the week last week and it went fine.  At duke today to get a port and meet with doctor.  Hope this stuff is working.  I go for my 3rd round of treatment tomorrow.  I'm having less pain so I think it is working.

I feel like a pin cushion!  They tried to start an IV 5 times without luck!  They need to check white blood cell count to see if it is high enough for treatment.  It was 1400 Wednesday but needs to be 1500.  Hopefully we'll find out soon if this stuff is working!

I was in the hospital this past weekend with low white blood cell count of 100 :( and a temperature of 101.9 I ended up being there Saturday until Monday.  Luckily my levels went up.  Trying to stay positive, but I miss the kids at school.

I was accepted into the study and had my first treatment oct 10th.  I am in a study group that receives a pill, which may or may not be a placebo.  I also have 3 different chemotherapies that I get thru IV few days after the start of the pills.  The first set of treatments knocked me down for almost a week.  I had nausea, fever, very achy bones, extreme fatigue, hair loss, plus numbness in fingers & toes.  After I was done taking the pills I felt much better which makes me feel I do not have the placebo.  Overall I feel much better the past few days.  I will be going for treatment every 3 weeks.  So my next one is next Wednesday and then IV treatments Friday.

Today I'm at duke to have a port put in.  Hopefully it goes smoothly.

Thanks to everyone that has been praying for me!  It is truly a blessing to have so much support from everyone!

At my last appointment (after PET scan) Dr said the cancer has spread some.  It is still mostly in my bones (spine, pelvis, rib, femur).  Today I went to Duke again for more tests (CT, bone scan, blood work) to see if I qualify for the study they want to put me in.  I will know next week whether or not I've been accepted into the study.  Either way I will start a new chemo treatment on Wednesday next week.  Thank you all for your support and prayers!

Went to dr because pain management is still an issue and I've been experiencing weird side effects.  We changed a few things so hopefully it will work better.  Dr also mentioned a new study conducted by
my main oncologist for brac2 cancer mutation.  My current hormone therapy and bone therapy is no longer working to control cancer cell growth.  I will have to go for another PET scan to see what we are up against since the last scan in June.  Hopefully this crazy cancer will respond to the new treatment.  This treatment is going to include 255 people from around the world.  Please pray it works!

I finally have results from the last treatment and unfortunately my circulating tumor cells number has increased from 13 to 20 (month before it was 26 and decreased to 13).  I am going to duke Friday to see about pain management again and for a few tests.  It seems like my body doesn't react well to most of the medicines for pain.  Hopefully they will find something I can use and still function at work and as a mom.  Thanks for all of your prayers...keep them coming I need them!

Finally good news...Circulating tumor cell blood test shows it is working!  The amount has been cut in half since the first treatment!  Hopefully I'll have more good news when I get the next set of blood tests back :) Thanks for all of your prayers!!!

I had my 2nd treatment.  The side effects were not quite as bad this time.  My back has been hurting lately.  I thought it was because of carrying Kara around but Dr said it was from the cancer in my spine!  Blood tests show same number of tumor cells which is normal for only having 1 treatment in my system.  Hope that it starts showing some progress soon :) love to all!

On my way to treatment number 2.  Hope circulating tumor cell count is lower.  A month ago I was at 27 percent.  15 percent or less has a good prognosis...please pray that it is lower now!  Thanks to everyone that has donated so far!!

It's been a bumpy road so far.  I was diagnosed late April with metaplastic breast cancer.  I had a masectomy shortly after (May 11).  Then gave birth to my daughter Kara on May 29, she was 4 weeks early.  She weighed 6 lbs. at 36 weeks and is doing great.  She eats like a champ and is gaining weight quickly.  I then had a PET scan which showed several spots on my bones.  Next I had a bone biopsy, which was positive for cancer cells.  On June 29 I had my first set of treatments...a bone treatment as well has hormone therapy.  I had some side effects like bone/joint pain as well as fever/chills.  Luckily it has gone away for now.  Now I'm just tired from having a newborn!  :)

Michelle, What beautiful children you have! My husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and did the many months of chemo, radiation and surgery. He is still with me after 38 years of marriage. The doctors worked wonders. I have worked at HSHS since the school opened. I teach science not far from you. I admire your strength to carry on and be the best mom, teacher, and wife you know you can be. God Bless.
