**update, Tuesday morning Marlene left us here to be with Jesus.  One old hymn could not be more fitting for Marlene as we know she is rejoicing.  "When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing it will be!  When we all see Jesus, we'll sing and shout the victory!"

26 years ago Marlene Ripley underwent a surgery that was suppose to diagnose why she was unable to conceive children.  She went into surgery hopeful that she would come out able to have children, but when she came out she was soon to discover that they had performed a complete hysterectomy and discovered that she had ovarian cancer.  She began treatments, chemotherapy and a round of radiation for "good measure" .   Even with the  pain of learning that she could not have children biologically and that she had cancer she was give the greatest blessing.  Marlene and Randy were able to adopt their son Matthew.  They were able to rescue an potential orphan and give him is forever home.  It is clear that God was working through all of this and Matthew was supposed to be theirs!  God cured her of her cancer and she remained cancer free until 3 years ago.  Ovarian cancer had returned.   She has been through a series of very expensive and tough medical treatments to try to kick cancer this time around, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation all with no medical insurance.  The cancer is aggressive, the tumor inoperable, but it did stop growing for a period.   In September of 2013 she returned to her oncologist after some complications and was given the most devastating news possible.  He had no more medical options for her, no surgeries or treatments , and the tumor was growing and aggressive.  She has sought some medical care from a non conventional doctor and he is giving her some alternative treatments in hopes of shrinking the tumor.  Through this Marlene's faith is as big as ever.  She knows God is the ultimate healer!  She has impacted so many lives and now it is our turn to help her.  First by prayer...

"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer." Romans 12:12

"do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

... but also in generous giving!  Doctors bills, medicine and other expenses will quickly add up especially now that Marlene is unable to work. They do not have insurance so every expense is out of pocket and that can be a terrible burden on the entire family.

"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2 -

If you are unable to give but would like to give her words of encouragement, please leave her a comment on the comment tab.  If you would like to mail her a note or prefer to give that way, send an email to Kristin at kristinaune@bellsouth.net and I will be happy to pass along a mailing address.

Marlene had an NG tube put in Thursday to drain what was in her stomach.  The doctor says that the blockage is caused by her tumor obstructing her bowels.  She is also on IV fluids. The hospice staff is trying to keep her comfortable and manage any pain that she has.  The staff is so wonderful and the facility beautiful.  Gloria stayed with her in her room over the last two nights and her niece Jodi stayed last night as well.  Marlene's niece Kristin who was supposed to leave on Thursday came back her Mom and Dad (Marlene's brother Rodney and sister-in-law Linda).  They are staying only footsteps away at a lodge near the hospice house. Marlene has had numerous visitors yesterday, some of her friends from church back home got a hotel so that they can be near.  Several friends from her church in Columbus have been by.  Randy and Matthew will be by her side for much of today.

Although Marlene's current medical expenses are covered by hospice, the loss of wages from Marlene and Randy who is self employed are great.  There is also some future planning expenses that could be a great burden on the family.

Pray for comfort for Marlene, for peace for the family, decisions that family will have to make for visiting, length of stay, etc.

If you would like to leave Marlene a message, please comment on this page.  I will read her any messages that are left.  She is in an out of sleep but is talking when she wakes up.  She is a fighter.

In Christ, Kristin

Marlene has not been able to keep any food down and was much weaker today.  The hospice nurse was scheduled to come in to administer iv fluids to Marlene to help her hydrate. Hospice recommended that she be admitted to their facility called Kobacker House so that they could give her more around the clock care.

Today she was admitted after a stop at the hospital for an xray.  They discovered that she has a blockage and tomorrow the doctor will come in and hopefully we will know more.  Her sister Gloria is staying with her at the Kobacker house.  Please pray for Marlene and all of the family.

Marlene has had a week of ups and downs and has not been able to keep much food down due to nausea.  This has made her unable to receive her treatments from her natural doctor.  Today the family and Marlene jointly made the decision to get help from a Hospice organization.  This by no means means anyone is giving up this fight!  In order to get much needed medicine and care by a nurse and the comfort of having someone just a phone call away, it was a necessary decision!  Since Marlene has been dehydrated, tomorrow hospice will be coming in to give her IV fluids.  We have already gotten some medications to help with the nausea that were called in by hospice, we are so grateful for this organization!
