Elisa's life changed in a serious way when she was diagnosed with stage 3 adenocarcinoma (cancer of the esophagus) with lymph node involvement.

If that wasn't bad enough, her life changed yet again when she was terminated from her job as a result of her diagnosis and plan of care treatments.

She needs our help with the mounting medical expenses and prescriptions, as well as day to day living expenses. With all she is going through, the last thing she needs to worry about is paying her bills.

Elisa received radiation treatments 5 days/week for 6 weeks and chemo once a week which rendered her unable to work due to complications. Near the end of her radiation treatments, her esophagus was so raw, inflamed and painful that she was unable to eat or drink for almost 5 weeks.  Swallowing was impossible for her to the extent that the saliva going down was excruciating.
She received IV fluids 3 times a week to keep her going.

She just underwent an 8 hour surgery to remove the entire esophagus, a portion of the stomach and 18 lymph nodes! We were told that her road to recovery will be a long and painful one.

Elisa has been through alot in her 63 years.
  • She was told she would not walk again if she survived when she was diagnosed with polio at the age of 7.  She not only survived, but she walked!
  • She, on two separate occasions had open heart surgery to replace one valve each.  She wasn't expected to thrive, but she did!
  • She had a brain aneurysm causing her to black out.  Her vision was impaired due to the accumulation of blood and inflammation; she wasn't expected to survive, but she did!  Her vision was restored, as well.

Elisa is very strong because her faith in God is strong.  He has saved her life many times over!  She loves life and is fighting like a champion! She believes that God has an amazing plan for her life.

CLEARLY, ELISA'S FINANCIAL NEEDS ARE CONSIDERABLE!  WE ALSO INVITE YOU TO PRAY FOR CONTINUED HEALING, STRENGTH AND PEACE~

Elisa has the most beautiful smile. Help to put that smile back on her face~

GREAT NEWS!!!

ELISA IS HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL!

She is struggling with extreme weakness, of course but is happy to be home.

Now for the NOT SO HAPPY NEWS...after 2 weeks in the hospital she found a letter waiting for her advising her that her medical insurance will be cancelled by midnight tonight!!
She will now need to pay for COBRA Insurance, which is very costly.

Her medical expenses are far from over!  Thank you for your prayers and support!

Elisa has had a couple setbacks since the leakage issue.  In addition to the extreme weakness, Elisa began coughing and was finding it difficult to breathe.  A chest x-ray found fluid in the left lung so they needed to make a small incision to remove 1 liter of fluid.

That took alot of pressure off the lung for her and she was breathing alot easier.

Prior to that, the feeding tube was leaking and needed to be adjusted.

With all of this, she is obediently doing all that the physical therapist and respiratory therapist are asking of her.

Keep the prayers for strength, healing and peace coming!

Elisa had a bit of a set back today!  A fever began and she was having difficulty swallowing.  It was painful and felt like nothing was going down.  After a couple x-rays, they found that there was internal leakage from one of the surgery sites.

They needed to remove the stitches from her neck to drain the fluid.  That will not be re-stitched as it will continue to drain.  The fluid caused an infection which swelled up her neck, thus affecting her swallowing.  The procedure was done, Elisa was exhausted and sleeping soundly!

The doctor says that in a day or two, the swelling should go down and the swallowing should return to normal.  The antibiotics will handle the infection and fever.......
