On August 20, 2001, our son, Brandon Gray, suffered a traumatic brain injury in a motor vehicle accident. His injuries were so devastating we weren’t sure if he would survive the night. He suffered a broken right hip, broken pelvis, crushed lower jaw, lacerated liver, crushed left hand with multiple compound fractures and worst of all a traumatic brain injury with bleeds throughout the entire brain! After the doctors finally got him stable, though still in critical condition and on life support, they were able to start repairing the broken bones and jaw, unfortunately after 10-14 days of waiting multiple complications arose. They repaired the jaw without ever assessing the inside of his oral cavity, he had multiple broken teeth and because they weren’t fixed before they put in the substantial hardware into his jaw he developed severe abscesses and this has plagued us to this day.
In 2009 Brandon’s teeth started deteriorating and I took him to a conventional dentist only to have them tell me that he had to go back to the original oral surgeon that had done all the previous work. The thickening agent we have to use to thicken his liquids caused dental decay to the point of broken teeth and infection all the way into the jaw bone. I did my best to take care of him until this year when infection and pain were so bad that in May I finally had to take him to the oral surgeon, she told me it was going to cost over $30,000 to completely take care of all of the teeth so they wouldn’t continue to rot. The medical expenses never go away, and there is never enough money for all the bills.
My goal is to raise 80k to pay back all the debt we have incurred due to the medical complications which insurance refused to cover any of. To be able to buy a handicapped accessible van in order to transport Brandon as he is now back in a Tilt n Space wheelchair that doesn’t fit into our cars.
Thank you for reading our story and God Bless you!
