Barry Woodward is a gentle, loving, and hard working husband. He and his wife Lorraine are the proud parents of Shannon and Jim, and the extremely proud grandparents of Lilly and Grant. Barry has always been active as a commercial painter, taken care of his body, and been the picture of health.

On August 5th, 2013, Barry suffered a major stroke while driving into work. The stroke has left him paralyzed on his entire left side, and the doctors had to remove a portion of his skull to reduce swelling on his brain. Barry is currently recovering and going through intensive rehab at Roger C Peace. He will soon be undergoing surgery to replace the removed portion of his skull. Although there have been setbacks along the way, Barry is now starting the slow process of physical and occupational therapy.

Throughout this tragic ordeal, Barry's loving wife Lorraine has been his rock. For those of us that have been close to this situation, it has been very moving to experience how much these two truly love and depend on each other. Lorraine has been splitting her time between her responsibilities as Vice President of the Greenville Chamber with sleepless nights at the hospital/rehab center.

When Barry leaves Roger C Peace, which could be very soon, he will be sent home in a wheelchair and will need a chair lift.  His home needs renovations to make it handicap accessible.  Presently he can not get into his house, and the bathroom will need extensive work to suit Barry's needs.  A new handicap accessible vehicle will also need to be purchased to transport him. Along with all of these needs are a mountain of hospital bills (ambulance bills, helicopter bills, etc). Although Barry is insured, the bill total will be more than the Woodward's can handle alone.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please, let's raise as much money as possible to try and ease this burden that Lorraine and her family are carrying. Every dollar that we raise will go towards making sure that the Woodward family is taken care of during this difficult time. Help us in this great cause!

Thank you all for all of your continued prayers, love and support! You have no idea how much it means to them during this difficult time.

Love,

Friends and Family

Happy Holidays!  As Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching, we have a lot going on.  Barry was released from Roger C. Peace two weeks ago on November 8th.  Since we are still in the early stages of renovations at our home (no floors, no ramp, no handicap shower), we were not able to bring Barry home yet.  In the meantime, we are staying with my precious son in his new home.  Barry is now receiving in home therapy twice a week where they are trying to build his strength since he still has to be lifted to get out of the bed or out of a chair.  This past week, we have seen some more movement in his left leg. He is able to push out and pull in as well as pull his toes up, and he can push down on his knee.  These are baby steps, but they are new baby steps and the goal is to get him strong enough to be able to stand and perhaps possibly walk on his own again one day.  He still is not able to move his left arm, and he is still experiencing a lot of pain in his shoulder.  We meet with an orthopedic doctor next week to see if there is anything that can be done to help with his pain.  As a result of the pain in his shoulder and lack of mobility on his left side, he cannot roll side to side. Our goal is to be in our home by Christmas.

I want to say again, there are not words for how much all of us appreciate the generousity of your donations and how you continue to lift our family up in prayer.  We are moving in a positive direction each and every day, so Thank You All! This Thanksgiving, more than any other, we are all especially THANKFUL for each blessing that comes and wish the same for each and every one of you!

it is starting to hit home, what I/we wii be facing very soon. Today, Jim and I went to a training session, on how to use the lift.  It really hit me, on how dependent Barry trly is. Because Barry can only roll slightly to one side.  Just trying to put him on the sling to hoist him is quite the task.  Knowing this will be needed to be done several times a day, I have to say I am a title nervous.
We are getting very close to going home. May be as early as Wednesday!  Construction won't be complete, but they are doing a great job!
I want to thank Lucynda Moore, who owns Rare Designs. For desiging a fantastic plan, to help Barry to be able to function in our home.  Also for putting, Roy Wood in our lives to get the job done.  He and his crew are a great trustworthy group of men.

Love to all of you  Our Angels!

First, Thank everyone for your generosity and support!

Barry after a few emotionally tyring days, Barry is very motivated to improve his ability to communicate and improve his mobility.

Here is where we are today;
* Barry was moved back to Roger C Peace after 5 day at GHS in ICU.
* On Monday he is supposed to have his trach removed.
* On Wednesday we started renovations on our home. In the hopes that he will return home by Thanksgiving.
* Today I am looking for a van to get him home and to and fro various rehabs.
* We are still working with insurance company to make sure he can continue to stay at RCP until we are ready for him to come home. If he can't he will have to go to long term care which is a worse case scenario.
* Next week I am going to Social Security to discuss long term disability to discuss any assistance they can offer. Regarding his care this point forward.
* Most importantly we will be celebrating his birthday on Tuesday.

Continue to keep us in your prayers and Thank you so much for EVERYTHING! It means more than you can ever imagine!

Love to all

Barry and Lorraine

I have wonderful news to share. Barry's Dr. Just came out from his surgery. It was a success! That music to my ears. One BIG step forward. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful support system. Your prayers have been heard and I thank you! He will be in ICU tonight and we will see how he does as to where he goes later.

We can't begin to express what your gift means to Barry and myself.  The money is most definitely helpful and will go to extremely good use, there's no doubt about that.  But more than the monetary value, we so greatly appreciate the thought behind the gift. Illness is a burden but your actions have really lightened the load.  For that, we thank you!

This time has been difficult for us, but knowing we have the support of family, friends and even those of you we donot yet know certainly helps.  Thank you again from the bottom of our heart.

We love each of you.

Barry and Lorraine
