A note from Iris: My mom has been a community activist for 35 years. During that time she has worked to raise awareness about the use of pesticides and herbicides in our environment, nuclear energy and nuclear waste disposal, sustainable forestry practices, water conservation and open pit gold mining. Those of us who know and love her know that no battle is too big for Mom to take on, whether it is the US Army Corps of Engineers and it's policy on using herbicides to remove foliage from rivers and lakes or a multinational gold mining corporation and their plans to destroy a watershed ecosystem in the process of using cyanide to leach gold from a pristine mountaintop. When Mom sees a stand of trees in need of a voice to speak out for them she does so. She has traveled to Washington DC to speak to Congress about forestry practices and has consulted with her local Forest Service branch to steer them toward sustainable harvesting practices.  Now, at the time of her life when she should be enjoying her grandchildren and growing a garden, Mom has been diagnosed with Stage 3b Lung Cancer. So now the biggest battle of her life must begin-the battle for her life. Thank you to everyone who has given to my mom. Your kindness and generosity have me in tears, the love and support that is pouring out from the community has been amazing. My mom has truly touched the lives of many with her strong spirit and her determination. 

Mom is a fighter and is keeping her spirits up. She has begun treatment and tells me of the new technology that is being used to directy target her tumor. We have great hope that she will recover. She is receiving excellent medical care and is also under the guidance of a Naturopathic physician who is helping her understand what supplements to take to balance the effects of the radiation and chemo. She is challenging herself to juice daily and eat an anti cancer diet (basically plant based). If you are in the Portland area and want ot set up a visit let me know and we can coordinate something.
